TO BE OR NOT TO BE


A LESSON IN LIFES RUGBY SCRUM!!!


How often do your emotions (or hormones if you like) hi-jack you, ambush you and wrestle you to the ground ,pinning you down helplessly until you fight your way back up again? How long are you out for? Have you stopped getting up or worse yet, lost your ability to want to get up...what's the point in getting up to be knocked down again??


How many other people do you take down with you even though you try really hard not to? How many times are you at the effect of OTHER peoples rugby scrums, eagerly and naively running on the field as the all loyal sub ?! (Is this what you do with your family!)





Are you aware of the effect this has on you, your quality of life, your happiness quota and your body?(Not to mention those around you).

Imagine the worlds wildest roller-coaster , you know the one that scares the living shit out of you and yet thrills you into endorphine and adrenal overload so much so we are crazy enough to go back again!!!!! Some smart folk don't go back on it and the wiser ones don't go on in the first place !!!!


Ok, so thats the extreme, but a similar effect happens to you everytime you get upset,angry,frustrated,sad,guilty,depressed,fearful,anxious,hurt,jealous,


hateful,stressed out, insecure...shall I go on or do you get the picture?


Then, we watch the news, or the disaster report, read newspapers,watch drama on television (apparently called real-life tv?!), get on the telephone,listen to other peoples gossip and opinions, be told by our teenage daughter that she hates us,your sister does the poor me routine and you fall for it ...again.....and what spikes occur in our emotional state again and again?


How many scrums do we collide with all day...some small, some gigantic!! It could be the latest barrage of news of the stock market,or petrol prices going up or the interest rates or swine flu epidmeics or...or..or...phewee...hold on I NEED a rest from all of this insanity!!! I'm off for a beer or 9...(I'm joking here)


We all employ numb-out tactics or avoidance habits,anything ranging from taking drugs, getting drunk (or merry at the least) over-working,exercising beyond our requirements or any addcictive patterns that seem to ease the intensity of life!!!


GUESS WHAT?!!! Sorry to be the Grinch.... but the "it" has already affected you...this is what has driven your choices to drink,smoke etc!!!!!


What to do? ...CHOOSE to go surfing, make love,stroke an animal, play Monopoly with the kids...CHOOSE and institute something that elicits a different response and begin to be AWARE of the people,situations and choices that you make that create this insane energy in your life,body and environment!


What could that choice be? Maybe switch off the tv, watch dvds of YOUR CHOICE!!!!! Don't listen to 0r engage peoples dramas and gosssip (Oh my... Is THAT the time, I really have to go!!)...

How can you fly like an eagle when you hang around with turkeys?!!!!


The daily emotional scrums of life are optional!!!! If you choose to play a different game and create your OWN rules you won't be tackled!!!!

You may however choose to tackle yourself, but that subject is for another time....


And you don't need to be defensive...you can be aware instead...its a lot kinder and the upside to all of this choice thing is that you be happier!!! You be more of who you used to be...who you like to be and is fun for you!!!


Do you remember you? how much of you is left...a lot or a little?

Who stole my beingness?!!

WHAT IS BEING?

It suggests that its an action that these days we

could relate to living or existence as in a "human being'.

Have you noticed that we have become human doings rather than beings?

How many being moments do you experience in your day ?

How many doing moments do you experience in the day?!!!!



Are you a pile of do-do?!!!!



Being is often understood as ones state of being, a personal human experience with aspects that involve expressions of being aware of yourself,your actions, your surroundings and others, being awake, present, OR NOT!!!!!!!

Doing on the other hand is more like the auto-pilot that most people are programmed to be, in mistake of being!! Take a look at young children or animals. They have ease in their bodies,ease in their minds (probably because it hasnt yet been engaged and trained!!!) and therefore joyous existences,where they live in a state of lightness,fun and curiosity of everything.



So lets look at what you love to do for relaxation...is it gardening? Enjoying a massage? Is it fishing? Walking in nature? Making love? Being with animals? Reading? Sport (either watching or participiating!)...notice how they are all "ing" words?

This indicates a present state in which, yes you are doing to an extent, but how much enjoyment/mental rest do you experience ? You generate a space of where not much else is occupying your mind and therefore all the "important" daily stuff vapourises,as if by magic!

This is like a mini holiday for us and do we even notice the effect cognitively? So, how often or how much time do you allow yourself to indulge these days? Are the Monday morning blues due to the fact you have had a teaser of this energy or worse did you miss out on the weekend?!

And, while we are on the subject, how much of your life is functioning from a place of obligation, you know the "have to's " and I've "got" to.?

How does that feel to you? Do you get niggly,resentful sour ?

Do you "work " 70%, 80%...90% of the week and hangout to go for a surf ...aching, without realising that your innate being yearns for that which re-activates a sense of peace, connection,oneness with that un-acknowledged invisible presence .

Ah-ha! To surf or to go surfing...voila! A great example...to surf = doing,

to ride= doing, or different perspective, to go surfing= being, to go riding= being....are you aware of the subtle difference?

Are we awake,present with the aliveness of it all or are we half asleep going through the motions (sound like your sex life?!! or in fact many areas of your life?!!)

When you and your body are in a state of relaxation (and this doesnt mean you have to be on the couch,relaxation can also involve activity)the body has a chance to relive the generative energy of soul nourishment...is this what makes life worth living?!!! Do we only access this energy through a few narrow avenues that we carve out for ourselves in our lives? Perish the thought that we only create minute amounts of time to allow ourselves us this joy.

Does this mean you have to sell the kids? Give the house to someone and quit your job?! NO! (SORRY!!! as much as you occasionally relish this thought!!). What if you could bring this sense of being into your daily life,be able to access this sense of peace in any activity you choose to partake? Could you strengthen this beingness as you would a muscle? Even if it took time and awareness?

It really is only a choice!
